Yes. In Connecticut, roofing contractors are required to hold both a Home Improvement Contractor (HIC) license and a Roofing Contractor (MCO) license, both issued by the state's Department of Consumer Protection. These licenses confirm that the contractor has registered with the state, carries proper insurance, and is legally permitted to perform home improvement work — including roofing. Always ask to see a contractor's HIC and MCO numbers before signing anything. Most of our clients have been able to cover their storm damage with their carrier based on the type of loss they experienced. The common perils (covered damages) include wind, hail, and, sometimes, falling trees. The most common excluded damage outside of these are wear and tear, deterioration, thermal expansion and contraction, mechanical, faulty installation, aging, granular loss, blue/green algae (lichen), and foot traffic. Also, we can provide you with your available options, if any, and the solutions to address them. It costs nothing to have us take a look before submitting a claim to your insurance company; it can cost you a lot if you do not have proper documentation to support/prove your loss.

If you or someone you know has received a letter like this, give us a call, and we can schedule an inspection to conduct our diagnostic and provide you with a report you can send to your carrier, including the life expectancy of your roof. In most cases, it might just require repairs or maintenance to add some additional life to the system, and this is often enough for the carriers to provide you with additional coverage time.
